Answers to the most common plumbing and water quality questions from Fort Worth homeowners — pricing, process, credentials, service areas, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions — Circle T Plumbing

Circle T Plumbing serves Fort Worth and surrounding communities across Tarrant, Parker, and Johnson counties. Below are answers to the most common questions we hear from homeowners — about pricing, process, water quality, credentials, and service areas. These questions come from real conversations. If you don’t see your question here, call us directly and we’ll answer in plain English.

Pricing and Cost

How do I know the price won’t change after the plumber arrives?

It won’t — and that is not just a policy we say out loud; it is a documented step in every service call we make.

After our plumber diagnoses the problem, we present written options with clear, itemized pricing. No work starts until you review those options and approve in writing. This is Step 4 of Circle T’s Quality Beyond Compare Method: Present Honest Options. It applies to every job, every technician, every time — no exceptions.

You approve the price before work begins. That is the Circle T Trust Guarantee.

If during a repair we uncover something unexpected that changes the scope, we stop, explain what we found, and get your approval before continuing. You are never handed a bill that is larger than what you agreed to upfront.

Do you charge for the estimate or the diagnostic visit?

We charge a diagnostic fee that covers the time our Responsible Master Plumber (License #M45785, issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners) spends identifying the root cause of your problem. A diagnostic is not a guess — it is a documented assessment that tells us exactly what is happening and why.

If you proceed with the recommended repair or installation, that diagnostic fee is credited toward the total cost of the work. You will know the fee amount before we schedule, and we will confirm it again at the door.

The reason we do not offer “free estimates” is straightforward: a real diagnosis requires skill and time. A plumber who rushes through your home for free and quotes on the spot is pricing without understanding. That is the kind of estimate that leads to surprise bills later. We would rather be clear upfront.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer financing so you can move forward on a water heater, repipe, or water-treatment system without paying the full amount up front. You can prequalify online in a few minutes — apply for financing. Ask us about current options when we provide your written quote, and we’ll help you choose the plan that fits.

Process and Service

What happens during a Circle T service call?

Every Circle T Plumbing service call follows the same 7-step Quality Beyond Compare Method. Here is what that looks like in practice:

  1. Schedule & Pre-Arrival Confirmation — You receive a confirmation with a timeframe. No four-hour windows and no surprises.
  2. Home Protection & Meet-and-Greet — Our plumber introduces themselves, confirms the problem, and takes precautions to protect your floors and surfaces before touching anything.
  3. Diagnose & Educate — We find the root cause — not just the visible symptom — and explain what we found in plain English. No jargon.
  4. Present Honest Options — You receive written pricing for all viable options, from the most conservative fix to the longer-term solution. No pressure. “Do nothing” is always a valid option.
  5. Execute Meticulous Repair/Install — Work begins only after you approve. Our craftwork reflects the Texas Responsible Master Plumber credential behind it.
  6. Verify, Clean Up & Walkthrough — We test the work, clean up the workspace, and walk you through what was done.
  7. Follow-Up & Plumber-for-Life Support — We follow up after the visit to confirm you are satisfied and remain your point of contact for future needs.

Do you only handle water quality, or do you do regular plumbing too?

Both. Circle T Plumbing is a licensed plumbing company that also provides water quality services in-house — testing, filtration, softeners, and reverse osmosis — all under one Master Plumber license.

On the plumbing side, we handle: leak detection, drain cleaning, sewer clean-out, re-pipe, faucet repair and installation, garbage disposal installation, water heater installation and repair (tank and tankless), gas line work, and new construction rough-in, top-out, and trim-out.

On the water quality side, we provide: water quality testing, whole-home water filtration, water softener installation, and reverse osmosis systems.

The reason this matters: when your water heater is failing prematurely, the cause is often hard water scale — a water quality problem. When your water tastes odd, the fix might require a plumbing modification that a water treatment company cannot legally perform without a plumber’s license. We handle both sides in one visit.

I have an older home — will you be able to work on older plumbing systems?

Yes. Most of the homes Circle T Plumbing serves in Fort Worth and the surrounding area were built within the last 50 years — including homes from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s that carry galvanized steel supply lines, older copper with lead solder joints, or cast iron drain systems.

Our Texas Responsible Master Plumber (License #M45785) has seen those systems. Our 23-plus years of combined experience includes diagnostic work on older plumbing that newer companies have never encountered. In cases where the aging pipe system is the root cause of repeated problems, we will tell you directly — and if a re-pipe is the right answer, we will explain why and price it clearly before any decision is made.

What do you do if you find something unexpected mid-repair?

We stop and call you. Every time. This is not discretionary — it is how the Circle T Trust Guarantee works in practice. If our plumber opens a wall and finds a problem beyond the original scope, they photograph it, document it, and contact you with a revised price before any additional work begins. You decide how to proceed.

Water Quality

Is Fort Worth tap water safe to drink?

Fort Worth’s municipal water (PWS TX2200012) meets all EPA Safe Drinking Water Act standards. Full compliance is documented in the annual Consumer Confidence Report.

That said, “regulated” and “confident” are different things, and we think homeowners deserve to understand the specific profile of their water.

Fort Worth uses chloramine — a chlorine-ammonia combination — as its year-round disinfection method. Fort Worth water tests in the hard range: typically 6 to 10 grains per gallon (100 to 171 ppm as calcium carbonate). The water carries an alkaline pH tendency, usually measuring between 8.1 and 8.5.

None of these characteristics make Fort Worth water unsafe. But they do mean that what you taste, see on your fixtures, and experience in your appliances is real — and there are treatment options worth understanding if those characteristics matter to your household. Read the Fort Worth Water Quality Guide for a complete, CCR-sourced breakdown.

If you’re curious about taste, scale, or what might be in your specific water, we’ll test it and explain what we find — then you choose what, if anything, to do.

My water tastes off. Do I need a whole filtration system?

Not necessarily — the right answer depends on what your water test reveals.

Fort Worth water uses chloramine for disinfection. Some residents detect a faint chemical or medicinal taste, particularly in chilled water or ice. If that is what you are noticing, the solution is usually a catalytic carbon filtration system — not just any filter. Standard granular activated carbon (GAC) filters, including most retail pitchers and under-sink filters marketed for taste improvement, do not effectively break the chlorine-ammonia bond in chloramine. They may help initially, then plateau.

Other causes of off-taste include high hardness (scale buildup in pipes and water heaters that affects flavor), elevated TDS (total dissolved solids), or localized pipe conditions at your specific address.

The Circle T Plumbing approach: we test your water first. We measure chloramine residual, hardness, pH, and TDS. The test tells us which solution — whole-home filtration, reverse osmosis, water softener, or some combination — matches your actual chemistry. We match the solution to your water. Not the other way around.

What is a water softener and do I need one?

A water softener is an ion exchange system that replaces calcium and magnesium minerals in your water with sodium ions. The result is “soft” water that does not leave mineral scale on fixtures, pipes, appliances, or water heaters.

Fort Worth water tests in the hard range — typically 6 to 10 grains per gallon. At those levels, you may notice: white scale on showerheads and faucets, film on dishes after the dishwasher runs, shortened water heater lifespan from sediment buildup, and more soap or detergent needed to produce lather.

Whether a water softener makes sense for your home depends on your actual hardness reading at the tap, your household water usage, and your preferences. We test first and recommend based on what we find — not on a preset recommendation.

What is the difference between a water filter and a water softener?

They solve different problems and are often used together.

A water filter removes or reduces contaminants: chloramine, chlorine, sediment, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and in some cases dissolved solids. The right filtration technology depends on what is in your water — catalytic carbon for chloramine, standard carbon for chlorine, sediment filters for particles. A whole-home filtration system treats all the water entering your home.

A water softener specifically targets hardness — dissolved calcium and magnesium that cause scale. It does not filter chloramine or other contaminants in the same way a filtration system does.

Many Fort Worth homeowners use both: a softener for hardness and a carbon-based filter for chloramine taste and odor. A reverse osmosis system at the kitchen sink provides the highest level of point-of-use drinking water refinement.

We will test your water and explain exactly which combination makes sense — or whether either is warranted. No pressure to choose anything on the visit.

Credentials and Trust

What license does your plumber hold?

Our Responsible Master Plumber holds Texas Responsible Master Plumber License #M45785 (issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners) — the highest plumbing license the State of Texas issues.

This is not a standard journeyman or basic contractor license. The Texas Responsible Master Plumber license is issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and represents the most rigorous training and examination the state requires. It authorizes the holder to supervise all plumbing work, certify completed installations, and hold direct accountability for the quality and code compliance of every job performed.

Every diagnosis, every recommendation, and every repair or installation Circle T Plumbing performs is backed by this credential. Not by a subcontracted plumber’s license — by ours.

Who owns Circle T Plumbing?

Circle T Plumbing is locally owned and operated by Patrick McKinnis, Responsible Master Plumber (License #M45785) — a North Texas resident leading a team with 23-plus years of combined plumbing and water quality experience.

Circle T is not a franchise. There is no corporate dispatch center, no rotating technician pool managed by a regional territory manager, and no pressure to follow a national service menu. When you call Circle T, you are calling a business where the owner is accountable and reachable — and where the reputation being built is personal to the people doing the work.

Patrick McKinnis holds Texas Responsible Master Plumber License #M45785. He is on the job, not behind a desk.
