Circle T Plumbing runs water quality testing for homes in Fort Worth, Cleburne, and across Tarrant and Johnson County. We check your water at the tap for hardness, chlorine, and total dissolved solids (TDS). Our Texas Responsible Master Plumber (License #M45785) explains what the numbers mean in plain English before any treatment comes up. If a softener, filter, or reverse osmosis system fits your home, you see the price and approve it before work begins. If your water tests fine, we tell you that too.

If you’re worried about taste, hardness, or what might be in your water, we’ll test and explain what it means — then you choose.

What We Test For

A Circle T Plumbing water test checks three things at your tap: hardness, chlorine, and total dissolved solids.

  • Hardness, measured in grains per gallon (gpg). This is the calcium and magnesium in your water. It causes the white scale on faucets and showerheads, spotting on dishes, and buildup inside your water heater.
  • Chlorine, the disinfectant your city adds to keep water clean on its way through the pipes. It causes most of the taste and smell people notice, especially in chilled water and ice. If taste is your complaint, whole-home filtration is the usual answer.
  • Total dissolved solids (TDS), measured in parts per million (ppm). This is everything dissolved in the water, added together. It gives a quick overall reading and helps decide whether a reverse osmosis system at the kitchen sink is worth it.

Each reading answers a different question. Together they show which problem, if any, is worth solving.

Fort Worth and Cleburne Water, by the Numbers

Fort Worth’s water meets all federal standards, and its 2022 Consumer Confidence Report puts hardness at 6 to 10 grains per gallon — a scale issue, not a safety issue.

The city’s system (PWS TX2200012) also serves Benbrook and treats its water with chloramine. The 2022 report lists hardness at 6 to 10 gpg (100 to 171 ppm) and TDS at 161 to 278 ppm. Our Fort Worth water quality guide covers the system in more detail.

Burleson buys its treated water from the same system. Its hardness runs 5 to 10 gpg and its TDS 156 to 289 ppm.

The City of Cleburne (PWS TX1260003) draws from three sources: Lake Pat Cleburne, Lake Aquilla, and Trinity Aquifer wells. It treats with chloramine and switches to chlorine alone once a year to flush its lines. Because the mix of sources shifts, readings vary from home to home. A test at your tap shows your number. Our Cleburne water quality guide has more on the local supply.

A city report gives a range. Your tap’s reading can sit anywhere in it.

How the Test Works

We test your water at the tap, then walk you through every number before anything else happens.

  1. You book a visit. We arrive in the scheduled window and protect your home.
  2. We draw a sample at the kitchen tap and test hardness, chlorine, and TDS on-site.
  3. We explain each reading in plain English and what it means for your fixtures, appliances, and taste.
  4. If treatment makes sense, you get written options. You approve any price before work begins.
  5. If nothing is needed, we say so.

What Happens After Your Test

A water test leads to one of four outcomes: a softener, a filter, a reverse osmosis system, or nothing at all.

  • High hardness and scale: a water softener removes the calcium and magnesium before they reach your fixtures and appliances. Scale also shortens water heater life, so if yours already shows buildup, we may suggest water heater service.
  • Chlorine taste or smell: whole-home filtration treats the water before it reaches any tap in the house.
  • High TDS or poor drinking-water taste: a reverse osmosis system treats the water at your kitchen sink.
  • Readings in a normal range: we don’t recommend treatment.
